Jamie’s Surgery Update

First of all. Sorry for the late update. I have been trying to keep the wheels on the bus. Life has been moving at a pace and I can barely keep up.

Yesterday, we dropped off Javi at school at 7:20AM, and raced home. Jamie needed to shower using their special brand of soap and we were out the door by 7:50AM.

Austin traffic was Austin traffic. If you know about the hell of I-35 at 8AM in the morning, then you know it took us a minute to get to St David’s on 31st Street. I dropped off Jamie at 8:47AM and parked the car.

By the time I made it upstairs they had asked her to pee in a cup to see if she was pregnant. She got changed into her hospital gown. And we waited for what felt like a small eternity for her pregnancy test. Funny thing is I got snipped a year ago but they could not move her into pre-op until those results came back. As we waited, Dr Potter (her surgeon) came in. They chatted about the goals. Jamie said she wanted to buy a swim suit a Target. Dr Potter and Jamie did jig as she said it. I wish I would have recorded it. The dance was adorable.

Finally the results from the pregnancy test came back negative and slew of nurses marched in with joy and rolled Jamie away. It was like a clown car.

The procedure should have lasted 4 hours. The whole thing ran from 10:52AM to 3:39PM. About 4 hours and 47 minutes. Dr Potter called me post surgery and told me that Jamie did well. In all honestly, the time does not matter to me at all. Dr Potter is working with blood vessels at the microscopic level. this kind of stuff takes time. Just like smoking ribs. Some things you don’t rush.

ICU UCme

Jamie stayed in ICU last night. She has some incredible nurses. In fact, I have been really impressed with the staff at St David’s in Austin. Housekeeping is jovial and friendly. Ally, Jamie’s ICU nurse is trained in this vertical and has an extensive vocabulary about how to help patients who have just gone through this surgery.

The reason why Jamie is in ICU is for monitoring purposes. Dr Potter and her team are able to monitor Jamie remotely and chime in as needed. As someone who love automation and dashboards, this speaks to me.

Jamie’s blood pressure has been a pinch low. Dr Potter wants to ensure Jamie’s blood is pumping to her Goobs (Gut Boobs). Once she maintains stable blood pressure, she can get some pain killers. Till then, she can only have Tylenol.

We had anticipated Jamie may only stay one night but she will stay for another evening. She is getting incredible care.

Jamie saw her new Goobs and she says she likes the shape! All good things!

Where is Javi?

Wita is watching Javi. they arent having any fun! Big thanks to Wita!

Jamie Wanted Shirts!

in August, Jamie mentioned to me that she wanted breast cancer awareness shirts. She had looked online and damn, a lot of those breast cancer shirts are corny. Given all the things that are happening, we have been slowly working to design shirts. Overall, we made 4 designs and you can get them here! most of these designs come is infant, toddler, youth, unisex, and racerback tees. You can even find a hoodie!

Toilet Seat

i went home last night to find Jamie’s toilet seat had broken. I went to Home Depot and got a No Slam seat. I love me the No Slams!
