Jamie's is headed back to surgery

and Antonio is driving this update!

Hi everyone!

I haven’t always been the best writer, I am a stronger songwriter and public speaker. But I will do my best.

What I can guarantee is that this update will be entertaining.

Let’s start with some housekeeping. You can get updates on Jamie’s surgery status by sending this code KXAG to 32222 on your cell phone.

Like Family

Moments ago, they took Jamie back to the operating room. Jamie has a crew of Dr’s helping here. Dr Sprunt will be doing the breast removal and then Dr Potter and her team will be in to set Jamie up for reconstruction. Dr Potter came in to say hi, check on Jamie, and talk about the surgery.

Towards the end of the conversation, Dr Potter placed her hand on Jamie’s foot, looked Jamie in the eye, and said, “We are going to take care of you like you are family.” I lost it.

Fuck Cancer

A few years back, I wrote a song a few years ago called Fuck You, Cancer. I penned the track during a time when my best friend Thomas was battling carcinoid cancer and I had recently found out that my friend Courtney battled breast cancer alone.

You want to hear something funny, I cant check the link to watch the video for Fuck You, Cancer on the hospital Wifi. I think the word fuck is blacklisted on their Firewall. The IT guy in me gets it. I can hear my mom now, “Son, can’t you use a different word?” Nope. Fuck cancer!

Have you met my friend Courtney? She lives just north of the city Her art and creations come up in day to day life In ways that you would never dreamed Let me remind you You placed that lump on her breast But Courtney wrecked you with such silent strength And now she bedamns you by name

Fuck you, fuck you cancer
Turn your ear to my brazen chide
Take your lazy grip
Off my precious life and find a new place to hide

Oh Antonio and His Imaginary Friends - Fuck You Cancer

Within days of Jamie finding out about her Cancer diagnosis, we went to see Frank Turner play. If you don’t know, Frank is on my favorite songwriters. During the show, we both shed a lot of tears but one song we shouted at the top of our lungs were the lyrics below.

They threw me a whirlwind
And I spat back the sea
I took a battering but I've got thicker skin
and the best people I know looking out for me
So I'm taking the high road
My engines running high and fine
May I always see the road rising up to meet me
And my enemies defeated in the mirror behind

I'm trying to get better because I haven't been my best
She took a plain black marker, started writing on my chest
She drew a line across the middle of my broken heart,
And said: "Come on now, let's fix this mess"
We could get better
Because we're not dead yet

Frank Turner - Get Better

Game Time!

Dr Sprunt is going to weigh each of Jamie’s breast! Send us what you think each breasts weighs in grams! Each breast will be weighed independently!

Gracias

Thank you to everyone. We really can’t do it without you. I feel like everyone we know is doing something cool in their own way. We really appreciate it. I don’t want it sound trite. But know that we are really grateful for how awesome all of you have been.

Before Jamie went back, we were chatting about how tiring this time has been. All our energy has gone into Dr visits, starting a new job, making sure that Javi feels like we are there for him. It has been amazing to have you as a support!

As a kid from the 90’s, One of my favorite songs of the decade was Hold On Hope. I know Glen Campbell and Eric Church recently took a swing at the track but it is too polished for my liking. I like the roughness of the original. Cause when you are Holding on Hope, it feels a little more rough and less polished.

Send us your songs of inspiration!

Everybody's gotta hold on hope
It's the last thing that's holding me
