Full Day - Surgery Updates
Discharged and ready for bed
I can barely keep my eyes open. I think I am on my sixth wind for the day. I am fueled by coffee, hot tea, and kombucha (thanks Jason D) Given my ADHD, this update will be sponsored by bullet points.
Chris at Reception
Hats off to the St David’s hospital staff. They are amazing! From the moment we reached reception, we were blown away by the care and the warmth. Chris at reception with the bling (let’s be friends), Sarah in OR recovery, and Maria our discharge nurse. We see you. You are amazing and made a really rough day amazing!
How about those text updates?! As a caregiver, I loved them. I didnt have to update a million threads with friends.
St David’s gave us SMS updates every 61 minutes. As a systems person, I wanted to hug their operations team and tell them how grateful I was!
Nurses took Jamie back at 9:42AM.
I got a phone call from the OR nurse that they started surgery at 10:19 and all vitals were good.
At 12:34, Dr Sprunt called me to let me know that she was done removing Jamie’s breast and was passing the baton over to Dr Potter’s team and that Jamie was doing well.
Dr Sprunt also gave me Jamie’s measurements. Drum roll please!
The right breast is 1570 grams | 3.46 lbs
The left breast is 1586 grams | 3.49 lbs
At 2:05 Dr Potter called to let me know that Jamie was headed to Recovery and was doing well.
Jamie came out of OR around 4:30.
The first thing Jamie said was, “I feel lighter! I can see my toes!”
Lali will be with us over the next few days and she got to learn how to clean Jamie’s drains/bulbs.
Jamie only has 2 drains.
Jamie has a follow up with Dr Potter’s team tomorrow morning to see how things are going.
We finally got discharge at 6:00PM.
Jamie had a lot of padding on the way home. She needed to be saved from the seatbelt.
We landed at home around 6:40PM.
Javi came over with OC’s for about 15 minutes.
McKenna came over and braided Jamie’s hair. Thanks MCK!
Jamie doesnt have much mobility in her arm. She cant lift anything more than 5lbs. She shouldn’t push or pull. Flushing the toilet is too much. She cant bring her hands together to text on her phone. Responses from her may be slow over the next few days.
Thankfully Jamie ate a breakfast taco for dinner, took some meds, pee’d, and is laying in bed next to Lali watching the game.
Tomorrow Javi heads to play therapy. Session 2 with Wonders and Worries.
Muchos gracias for joining us on this journey, Goodnight. More tomorrow.
Time to sleep. I’m ready.

Jamie post surgery.
